Coastal ecosystems found in the Guinea Current region include:

- sandy marshy alluvial with estuaries and deltas with mangrove vegetation (Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone)

- rocky scarps and sandy beaches, alternating with mangrove vegetation(Sierra Leone, Liberia, eastern Nigeria to Gabon)

- low sandy coastal plains, which alternate with lagoons along the Gulf of Guinea (Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Congo Estuary up to the Angolan border)

- extensive marshy areas formed by the Niger Delta, with mangroves indented by fluvial channels that are subject to tidal influence.

Marine ecosystems found in the Guinea Current region include:

- small gulfs and bays

- large gulfs and bays

- offshore banks and shoals

- rocky coasts, including non-coral reefs

- the inner shelf seabed (0-200 m)

- seabed shelf break and upper slope (200-700 m)
